E Ink has announced that 12 displays incorporating its ePaper technology have been installed by Mercury Innovation in Sydney Australia in a project that included 12 13.3-inch, zero-emissions smart transportation signs with solar panels, according to a press release. Led Display Signs

The displays leverage E Ink Kaleido 3 Outdoor, marking the first deployment of the technology, which launched in April. The low-energy use of the displays is facilitated by their electrophoretic display (EPD) technology. The signs are rated to operate in -15°C to 65°C (5°F to 149°F), and because the technology uses ambient light for display, the signs are designed to work well during high-brightness hours in direct sunlight; they are equipped with a frontlight for nighttime.
"This deployment marks another major step in our ongoing partnership with E Ink," Enrique Esquivel, design director at Mercury Innovation, said in the release. "Our years of experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and extensive networks across the transportation industry, coupled with E Ink's leading ePaper displays, has enabled us to deliver significant road safety improvements, where drivers, riders and road authorities can respond dynamically to real-time changes."
"As energy costs come at a premium, ePaper products, like E Ink Kaleido 3 Outdoor, are gaining momentum," Timothy O'Malley, AVP US RBU at E Ink Corporation, said in the release." Kaleido 3 Outdoor was developed to meet customer's needs for more sustainable signage that can function in a variety of weather conditions for smart transit and digital out-of-home advertising."
