Grass fire started by hay baler at Wildwood Ranch, west of Joplin

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — About 2:15 p.m. Wednesday reports of a hay baler on fire near the 2600 block of Central City Road in the Wildwood Ranch alerted Jasper County E911. Bail Machine

Carl Junction Fire, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies and METS ambulance responded. Baxter Springs Fire, Redings Mill Fire and Galena Kansas Fire were requested to assist.

No injuries reported. The fire jumped the railroad tracks to the scrub brush on the south side but did not spread into the fields.

Workers on the scene estimated it to be 100 acres that burned, mostly on immediate north side of the railroad tracks.

Liberty Utilities were on the scene as well as railroad personnel checking infrastructure damaged.

Firefighters were still on the scene as of 6 p.m.
