For those looking for alternative options or not wanting to wait until their recycling gets collected, here are some different uses for plastic water bottles.

If you’re unfamiliar with ecobricks, they are a way of keeping plastic out of the landfills and instead putting them to use.

Ecobricks are plastic bottles filled with other plastics inside that are used as reusable building blocks. The idea is to pack them so full of other single-use plastics that they become as hard as a brick.

Once the ecobrick is full, there are a few ways to use it or donate it. One at-home use is raising flower beds in gardens. There are Facebook groups that you can join that have people you can donate to or get information on where you can donate ecobricks.

There are various ways to use plastic bottles as organizers as well. One example: Simply cut off the top half of the water bottle and sand the edges smooth. Now, it is an open container perfect for an office desk or a utility room.

Plastic bottles can also be used to fill space in boxes when moving older kids into their college dorms or packing up those end summer decorations.

Here are some crafts to make and use around the house. These can also be used to keep the kids entertained in the last few weeks before school starts.
